Jason Isbell – Southeastern (2014 US URP)
Open, spacious & transparent
Inky black background
Somewhat woolly bass
Not enough weight at bottom ends
Slightly lacking dynamics & depth
Full of scuff marks
Jason Isbell’s 2014 Southeastern repress has very similar SQ as his third album Something More Than Free, also on Southeastern Records.
Mastered by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic Sound, cut for vinyl by Cameron Henry at Welcome To 1979 and pressed by United Record Pressing. This repress seems to have rectified the distortions reported in the first pressing as I cannot hear any.
This is a somewhat quiet pressing but perhaps slightly lacking in dynamics and depths of Something More Than Free.
There is another repress by GZ Media which has better sound quality overall. The instruments and Jason Isbell’s voice are clearly richer, have more details and nuances. His delivery packs more emotion and heartfelt. The bass is heftier too…
